Assistance with Activities of Daily Living

Direction and some assistance with activities of daily living (e.g., grooming, dressing, bathing, toileting, eating) and instrumental activities of daily living (e.g., housekeeping, laundry) are provided by Sisters and staff trained as resident care aides.

Case Management

The case manager serves a critical role throughout your residency toward supporting your overall wellness. This includes:

  • Learning and communicating your preferences to your team of care partners at St. Josephs, who are designated to support your physical, mental, and spiritual well-being
  • Bolstering your voice in decision-making and problem-solving regarding your care
  • Serving as the liaison between your team of care partners at St. Joseph's and your health care providers

Dining Services

Menus are planned in consultation with a Registered Dietitian, and Sisters minister in Dining Services to enhance the familial atmosphere of St. Joseph’s Home. On special occasions, meals are served in the patio gazebo, which overlooks our tranquil gardens that are maintained by the Sisters, to further enhance the experience for residents.

Recreation

Recreation includes individual and group activities that are designed to promote each resident’s feeling of purpose and overall well-being.

We are blessed to have loyal volunteers who have truly enhanced our program to nurture the residents’ experience at our home.

Spiritual

A holistic approach to health requires addressing the body, mind, and spirit. Research has shown that the spiritual dimension can have a profound effect on the body and mind. Each of us has our own unique spirituality that has developed from our individual life experiences, and the latter stage of life presents distinctive opportunities for further spiritual growth.

For those of the Catholic faith who link their spirituality with their religious beliefs, daily Mass is celebrated in the onsite chapel. For all denominations, case managers are available to assist with coordinating spiritual care services.

Facility Grounds

St. Joseph's Home for the Aged is nestled in Huntington, NY, on a 22-acre property on the north shore of Long Island. The property blends mostly native forestry with a touch of thoughtful landscaping, which promotes the Missionary Sisters of St. Benedict's mission of providing residents with a spiritual haven to live their lives on Earth in peace and tranquility.
