Volunteer Appreciation Day

On December 2nd, the Missionary Sisters of St. Benedict held a Volunteer Appreciation Day to celebrate the exceptional individuals who generously contribute their skills, energy, and time to support the mission of St. Joseph's. These selfless volunteers embody the spirit of dedication, going above and beyond to make a positive impact within the St. Joseph's community. From graciously relieving a Sister from reception duties, allowing her to devote more time to caring for residents, to organizing and hosting activities that weave the social fabric of our community even tighter, each act is a testament to the profound importance of their service.

Father Janusz Mocarski commenced the day with a solemn Holy Mass, setting a spiritual tone for what followed—a compelling presentation designed to empower and guide volunteers in their pivotal roles within the lives of St. Joseph's residents. Sharing insights from his personal journey with sudden paralysis, Father Janusz provided a unique perspective on the intricate dynamics of suffering, both from the standpoint of the sufferer and the caregiver. His aim was to equip attending volunteers with valuable lessons that could prove crucial in navigating the challenges they might encounter while serving at our Home.

In his presentation, Father Janusz underscored a profound and universal truth: that suffering is an intrinsic part of the human experience. He invited volunteers to reflect on the deeper meaning embedded in their own struggles and, in turn, the challenges faced by the residents they dedicatedly serve.

With eloquence, Father Janusz conveyed his own set of dos and don'ts in caregiving, placing particular emphasis on the art of walking alongside the resident. He stressed the significance of genuine presence and the understanding that, at times, silent companionship can convey more than words ever could. Sometimes, a resident simply yearns for quiet companionship—a shared moment of existence that transcends the necessity for verbal communication.

Dearest Volunteers, thank you for your willingness to step into various roles and offer a helping hand, and most importantly, thank you for your unwavering devotion to the well-being of our residents and the overall strength of our community. We are honored that you have chosen St. Joseph's and cherish you as an instrumental piece in making our mission a reality.
